Frugal Fun for Little Ones That Families Can Enjoy In An Economy Crisis

By Alexandra Vrugt

Regardless of how hard times get and whether or not the world is experiencing an economy crisis, little children need and want to be entertained. Unfortunately, it seems, for parents, that these little ones see so many commercials and are always being marketed to everywhere they look, on food cartons and juice jugs. There are ways for a frugal fashionista to entertain the little ones during this economy crisis without buying all of the latest and greatest toys, or breaking the bank. Here's how:

Make fun stuff out of recyclable items! If your family eats cereal or uses juice boxes, then you should have more than enough supplies to have some recycling fun! Work along with your child to turn those boxes into cities that they can plan, build, and decorate. A little color from markers, crayons, and old newspaper or gift wrap can go a long way when it comes to sprucing up a newly built box "city". You can also add an interactive element by making a trip to the dollar store to buy for cheap those little action figures, die cast cars, and trucks.

Learn a craft together! It's almost magic when a parent and child learn something new together. An economy crisis, such as what our world is experiencing, can create the need to learn some of the old time skills that people can use for saving, cost cutting, and meeting their basic needs. You and your child could learn the basics of sewing or crocheting to make a few items that families can always use, like scarves, hats, or blankets. Any frugal fashionista knows that the key to any craft that is done for fun and money saving is to buy for cheap whenever possible. So, always try to use things that you have before going out and spending lots of money on supplies.

Find and use wacky frugal recipes for some real crazy times! One of the most fun, frugal recipes that you will find is the edible play dough recipe. Letting kids mix up a batch using items that you can buy for cheap like chocolate crme, confectioner's sugar, peanut butter, and powdered milk will keep them busy and excited. Plus, you'll also satisfy their need to snack while allowing them to explore their creative side! It's a great time and it's messy. Your kids will be very happy. But, most importantly, it won't cost your family a lot of money during this economy crisis. Now that's something to be happy about.

This economy crisis doesn't have to hinder your family's fun. Just use your creativity, take an inventory of possible "supplies" that you have around your house, and let your "handy" work be your play!
