The Easy Ways to Play the UK Lottery

By Tom Martens

The United Kingdom's main lottery game is the UK Lottery, a twice-a-week game with drawings every Wednesday and Saturday. It is a 6 from 29 lottery, meaning the lucky winner must match all six numbers to win the grand prize. Smaller winnings are given to those whose tickets match at least 3 numbers.

In order to play the UK lottery, you must have a ticket. There are two ways to purchase lottery tickets. One way is to go to a national lottery retailer to purchase tickets. The player marks the lottery number selections on a play slip. The play slip is then given to the retailer, who takes the slip and issue a ticket with the selected lottery numbers on it.

A second way to purchase lottery tickets is on the internet. The player manually enters the lottery numbers online and is then issued a "virtual" lottery ticket. The player receives the virtual lottery ticket via email. The ticket can then be printed or the lottery numbers can be accessed via a link sent in the email. It is perfectly safe and legal to purchase lottery tickets online.

It is essential that you use only authorized lottery web sites when you buy virtual tickets. You should keep your user name and passwords safe, and you minimize the risk of being hacked by logging out after you purchase your tickets. This helps ensure that your bank numbers are not compromised by online criminal activity.

Whether you buy your tickets in person or on line, you do not have to select your lottery numbers. In either method, you may opt for "Lucky Dip," in which the computer selects all six numbers randomly.

Finally, the player needs to make sure their lottery ticket, regardless of where the ticket is purchased, has: The numbers you picked (or Lucky Dip selections), the days you want to play, the correct number of weeks to play, the correct draw dates, a visible bar-coded serial number on the lottery ticket, and an unmarked void box on the lottery ticket

Play slips must indicate which lottery is desired, whether Wednesday, Saturday, or both. The UK Lottery permits you to use the same set of numbers both nights, and, indeed, to use the same numbers for up to eight weeks.

To claim your prize, write you name and address on your UK lottery ticket. It is impossible to claim a prize without a ticket. Then take your winning ticket to any authorized national lottery retailer. If no one wins the jackpot, the prize is rolled over into the next drawing.
