How To Get The Best Car Insurance Estimate

By Andy Zain

If you drive a car you are financially responsible for any damage you cause during an accident. Without insurance, you can be fined, lose your license, or have your car impounded. If you want to save money on insurance, have several companies work up a car insurance estimate for you before you buy any auto insurance.

You can get car insurance estimates in several ways. One would be to walk into a car insurance agent's office and ask for a quote. This is probably the worst way to get car insurance quotes. It is difficult to say, "I will check back with you" when you are looking the agent right in the eyes, but that is what you need to do in order to get the best price on car insurance.

A better way is to make phone calls to several insurance agents or companies and request quotes for insurance prices. Do not be put off it the agent or company asks to call you back with the quote. That is how they work. They will need some time to input your data into the computer and get the quote back to you. Give them the time they need in order to get the best quote. While one agent is working on your insurance estimate, call the next one on the list. You should have three to four quotes before deciding from which company to buy insurance. Do not agree to any price until you have all the estimates back.

Probably the best way to buy insurance is by using an automated quote request online. The automated system sends your information to three or four companies that know they must be competitive in price to get your business. They will then send you a quote by e-mail or call you with the quote. Even if you get a phone call, ask for the agent to e-mail the quote so that you can print out a paper record to compare side by side with all the other quotes.

Once you have all the quotes and have reviewed them, you are ready to purchase insurance.

If you can afford to pay the price of the entire policy at once, you will often save three to ten dollars a month in service charges.

Drive safely and obey the traffic laws and your insurance prices will remain low or even cost you less. In three years, all moving violations and accidents disappear from your driving record.
