Cash Back Represent the Only Reason to Use a Credit Card

By Stephen Brown

Many people only use credit cards because of its reward program. With as much as 5% cash back with some cards, how can we not take advantage of it? I guess it's our way of getting back those evil companies.

Rewards are accumulated with spending, but make sure you know about the ceiling in which the rewards go down. For example, some cards offer 3% rewards on gas, but only up to $12,000 a year. After which they give only 1%.

Some cards give out good rewards for gas, while others for restaurants. Take a look and lay out a game plan, so you know which card to use every time you go out.

Don't want to sort out multiple cards and still want a good overall reward card? Check out the ones that give out a respectable 2% cash back on every purchase.

Miles reward cards are great if you travel frequently. Otherwise, it's useless so tread carefully. Most of these cards also have an annual fee so if you don't use it, drop it.

If the store where you have your credit card closes its doors, you can bet that your credit card will also be terminated and you will be forced to pay your balance. Not a great situation I'd say.

Using your points for products is like throwing money at the slot machine. You may have fun but you are guaranteed to lose out. Instead, look for travel rewards, cash back and gift cards.

Points can expire for all sorts of reasons. So, look into them and make sure you redeem it for something before you lose it and don't even know.

Too many applications and your credit score is lowered. So make sure you really like the rewards before you apply for a card because of it.

Buying is fun but it's also costly. Do not buy anything because you believe the reward is good. Paying less for a product doesn't mean that you are saving money.

Small change add up so even 1% can be a huge difference through time. Don't ignore the rewards and be on your way to financial prosperity.
